Growing up as a first generation child in America was extremely hard. My parents had a really difficult time understanding different American customs such as inviting friends over for fun, (not just to work on a project) and staying after school for extra coricular activities such as sports or the drama club instead of just coming home and getting homework done. If I told them that I was going to stay after school for track, they would say "You can run around the block. Why do you have to do it at school?" Luckily, my parents were really proud of my singing so I would always use the excuse of singing to cover up my other afterschool activities. However, I could never have friends over and I could never visit them unless it had to do with working on a project. I was wondering if any of you have experienced similar situations where your parents have a hard time accepting or understanding the customs of the country you live in. If you have, I would like to hear about it. Thanks.

Well, I do have some thing to share with you too and here is my story.
you know how in are school they have food collection every now and than? and I all the time ask my parents for food donation but they always say that we have so little of food and also you are blind why you have to do that.
this is because of in Vietnam we have so little of food, and now they still stuck with the memory of the poor life that we used to live in Vietnam!!!
